May Student of the Month

The Southern Local Salineville Kiwanis Student of the Month for May is Brittany Webber.  Brittany resides in Salineville with her parents, Paul and Kathy Webber.  Brittany ranks sixth in her class with a 3.8 GPA.

Throughout her high school career, she has accumulated numerous academic achievements.  These achievements include Honor Roll, Certificates of Achievements, Certificates of Excellence, NHS, perfect attendance, and other achievement awards in different content areas.  Her accomplishments have been an ongoing process during her academic career at Southern Local.  These awards are an understanding and devotion of time to her classes and wanting to be more than average.  Brittany is always willing to assist her classmates in any way possible and does so with a smile on her face.

Besides her academic accomplishments, she has also developed a positive reputation in her athletics.  Brittany was a main stay on All-County and All-League teams.  Her hard work and good practice habits assisted with her accomplishments on the hardwood.

Although Brittany has accomplished numerous awards, she is still able to maintain employment at Long John Silver's.  Furthermore, Brittany plans on continuing her education at Pittsburgh Technical Institute to major in Business Management.  Then, pursue physical Therapy and own her own business.

2015 April Student of the Month

April Student of the Month

The student of the month for April is Britney Ketchum.  Britney is the daughter of Katrina Kitlle and Brian Ketchum.  Britney currently resides in Salineville, maintains a 3.88 GPA and ranks fourth in her class.

Throughout her high school career, Britney has been on the honor roll all four years.  With her GPA and class rank it is very clear that she takes her academics seriously.  Britney is always willing to take the initiative to assist her peers in any way possible. 

Besides her academics, Britney is a constant among student council, Spanish club, sports, Art club, Yearbook,  etc.  In regards to student council, she is currently the President and has been the class President for three years, captain for cheerleading, homecoming court, prom princess, NHS club, WSLS news, and has achieved a leadership award in both football & basketball cheerleading.  The reasoning for mentioning all of her positions is because she enjoys leadership roles.  Britney thrives in any leadership category and has been able to maintain that at Southern Local.

After Southern Local, Britney plans on enlisting in the military or pursue a degree in athletic training.

2015 March Student of the Month

March Student of the Month

The Salineville Kiwanis student of the month for March is Natasha Riggs.  Natosha is the daughter of Heather and Jason Riggs and they reside in Salineville.  Natasha has a current GPA of 3.95 and she ranks second in her class.

Throughout her four years at Southern Local she has been very dedicated towards her academics and therefore maintained the honor role during her time her.  Natosha has also earned other awards including the Green hand degree, Chapter degree, State degree, NHS, and 5th place with her Senior job interview.  As far as athletics are concerned, Natosha has earned three letters with cheerleading, as well as, a rookie award during her Sophomore year.

Some of the activities she has participated in include the President of the Science club, FFA, H-PAC (Health Professions Affinity Community), Drama club, Robotics, Light House Youth Group, Spanish club, and etc.  It's hard to understand how Natasha has enough time to participate in these activities, while still maintaining excellent grades.  However, it is very clear to understand her devotion to her academics.  When Natasha is not busy with one of her numerous organizations, she maintains employment as a laborer at Creekside Springs.  Furthermore, she plans on attending Kent State University majoring in biology and then attend medical school.

2015 February Student of the Month

February Student of the Month

The Southern Local Salineville Kiwanis student of the month for February is Sarah Phillis.  Sarah is currently ranked third in her class with 3.9 GPA.  She resides in Lisbon with her parents Margaret and Scott Phillis.

Academically, Sarah has been on the honor roll since her freshman year.  She has continuously placed an importance on her academics.  She also participates in yearbook, National Honor Society and  has been a member of Spanish club.  Sarah is in the Senior to Sophomore program with Kent State University. Outside of her academics, Sarah participates in athletics.  She has earned 3 varsity letters in basketball.  She is an active member of the Fusion Youth Group at Point of Mercy Sanctuary in Lisbon.

Besides maintaining honor roll status within school, she still finds time for employment opportunities.  Sarah is employed by Tim Horton's located in Calcutta and Phillis Lawn Care during the summer months.  After high school, Sarah plans on attending college and pursuing a degree in pharmaceutical science.

Kiwanis Student of the Month

The Kiwanis student of the month for January is Tayla Bott.  Tayla is a Senior at Southern local Jr./Sr. High School and resides in Wellsville with her parents.  Currently, Tayla has a G.P.A. of 3.53 and ranks 13th in her class.

In regards to academics, Tayla maintains great study habits and looks to achieve her best within all classes.  Besides her class rank, Tayla has been very active within Southern Local clubs and activities.  She has been a member of Art, Spanish, and Drama clubs.  She was the Vice-President of the Art club as a Senior. 

Due to her devotion to academics, Tayla has been and is currently still a representative of the National Honor Society.  Although she maintains good academics, she still finds time to participate in band.  Tayla is a four year letter winner in the band. 

Outside of school, Tayla has volunteered for two years at Lakeview Personal Care, however she is now an employee.  Furthermore, Tayla plans on attending Ohio Valley College and pursuing a degree in Nursing (RN).

Kiwanis Student of the Month

The Southern Local Kiwanis student of the month for December is Jacob Pelley.  Jacob is currently a Senior at Southern Local and resides with his father, Scott Pelley, in Salineville.  Jacob currently has a GPA of 3.56 and ranks 11th in his class. 

Academically speaking, Jacob has been on the honor roll throughout his high school career.  Academics are an area that he excels in and is very humble about it.  Some content comes naturally and he still maintains good study habits to increase his GPA.  Besides the academic portion of his high school career, band and football were other areas that he succeeded in.  Jacob has earned a letter in band all four years and enjoys music as a whole.  When asked, he prefers classic rock instead of most modern music.  As a senior, Jacob played football and earned a varsity letter.  From the first day of practice to the last, he was a constant at practice and someone the team could depend on.

Furthermore, it has always been easy to communicate with Jacob.  He is very easy going and maintains a good sense of humor.  The faculty and staff enjoy talking to him and wish him well in his future endeavors.  Speaking of future plans, Jacob plans on attending Kent State and studying Chemistry.   Possibly, a future within the medical field.

November Student of the Month

The Southern Local Salineville Kiwanis student of the month for November is Mitch Hartline.  Mitch is currently ranked seventh in his class with 3.74 GPA.  He resides in Lisbon with his father, Richard Hartline.

Academically, Mitch has been on the honor roll since his sophomore year.  He has continuously placed an importance on his academics.  He also participates in a video editing class.  Outside of his academics, Mitch participates in athletics.  He has earned a varsity letter in both golf and baseball, he seems to prefer golf over baseball. 

Besides maintaining honor roll status within school, he still finds time for employment opportunities.  Mitch is employed by the Hot Dog Shoppe located in East Liverpool.  After high school, Mitch plans on attending college and pursuing a degree in computer programming.

Salineville Kiwanis Student of the Month

The Salineville Kiwanis Student of the Month for October is Aron Sevek.  Aron resides in Salineville with his parents Ronald and Stephanie Sevek.  Aron is a Senior, his GPA is 3.76 and ranks sixth in his class. 

 

Throughout his high school career Aron has been on the honor roll all four years, as well as, receiving many awards for his academic accomplishments.  Some of these awards include an award of excellence in Algebra II, perfect attendance, and an award of excellence in Precalculus.  Due to his devotion to academics, Aron has been in the National Honor Society since his Junior year.               

Outside of school Aron maintains an active schedule by competing and lettering in both golf and basketball.  When he is not on the basketball court he remains competitive with recreational activity.  This includes hunting, fishing, camping, and riding his four-wheeler.  Aron definitely enjoys the outdoors because he cuts grass and works on houses for people.  Furthermore, Aron is devoted to his family and friends.

Salineville Kiwanis Student of the Month

The Southern Local Jr./Sr. Salineville Kiwanis student of the month for September is Sarah Gruber.  Sarah is the daughter David and Julie Gruber.  Sarah and her parents reside in Salineville and she maintains a 3.54 GPA.

Throughout her high school career, Sarah has earned numerous different awards.  Some of these award include perfect attendance, National Honor Society, and Honor Roll.  Besides her many awards, Sarah is also involved in Spanish Club.  Sarah's dedication to her academics has enabled her to be ranked twelfth within her class.

Outside of school, Sarah has maintained a busy schedule with her devotion to different clubs and/or organizations.  These organizations include Drill Team, Civil Air Patrol, Young Life Leader, and a Honor Cadet at 2013 Ohio Wing Encampment.  While she is not participating in one her many organizations, Sarah finds time for employment at Dillon's Fruit Farm.

Furthermore, these different organizations have allowed her to explore different opportunities after her high school career.  Sarah plans on joining the Peace Corps for two years than attend Mount Vernon Nazarene University for Journalism.  After college, she plans on joining the Air Force.
