May 2023 Kiwanis Student of the Month
Southern Local / Salineville Kiwanis
Katie Calderon has been selected May's Kiwanis Student of the Month by Southern Local High School.
Katie is the daughter of Karla Calderon and Dennis Bowers of East Liverpool.
Katie is currently ranked 17th in her class with a 4.03 grade point average. She will be graduating with an Honors Diploma this spring.
Katie has demonstrated exemplary academic and athletic achievement throughout her high school career.
She has participated in College Credit Plus Program through Eastern Gateway Community College.
She has been on the A/B Honor Roll her entire high school career. She was involved in FFA for 3 years, Spanish, and Journalism. She has also volunteered as a student aide.
Katie has been serving as the Spanish Club President for 3 years, a member of the student council, a member of the 2023 Winter Homecoming Court, and a member of the National Honor Society.
Katie is a 1-year letter winner in Golf. She earned All EOAC Golfer in 2023. She has also participated in volleyball for 2 years.
After high school, Katie plans to attend Youngstown State University to major in Pediatric Nursing.
Katie was joined by her parents, Karla Calderon and Dennis Bowers, Hoi Wah Yu, Harmony and Silas Black, her golf coaches and teachers, Gerard Grimm and Kyle Exline.
April 2023 Kiwanis Student of the Month

Cameron Sloan has been selected April's Kiwanis Student of the Month by Southern Local High School.
Cameron is the son of Chasity and Richard Sloan of Wellsville.
Cameron is currently ranked 15th in his class with a 4.09 grade point average.
Cameron has demonstrated exemplary academic and athletic achievements throughout his high school career.
Cameron has participated in the College Credit Plus Program through Eastern Gateway Community College.
He has been on the A/B Honor Roll throughout his high school career.
Cameron has been the Class President for all 4 years of high school. He is currently the PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) President. He is also a member of Student Council, Spanish Club and Varsity Club.
Cameron has participated in 5 sports during his high school career. He is a 4-year letter winner in football and track. He is a 2-year letter winner in basketball and bowling. He is a 1-year letter winner in baseball.
After high school, Cameron plans to join the National Guard and further his education at Youngstown State University to major in Business in hopes of owning his own business one day.

Brady Ketchum has been selected March's Kiwanis Student of the Month by Southern Local High School.
Brady is the grandson of David and Denise Ketchum and the nephew of Josh Ketchum of Salineville.
Brady is currently ranked 21st in his class with a 3.88 grade point average.
Brady has demonstrated exemplary academic and athletic achievements throughout his high school career.
Brady has participated in the College Credit Plus Program through Eastern Gateway Community College.
He has been on the A/B honor roll throughout his high school career.
Brady is the secretary of the senior class.
Brady is a member of the Southern Local National Honor Society Chapter.
Brady's extracurricular activities include basketball, baseball, and golf. He is a 4-year letter winner in basketball. He has earned a career assist record and season assist record his senior year. He is a 2-year letter winner in baseball. He earned a game record for stolen bases in a game his junior year. Brady also is a 2-year letter winner in golf.
After high school, Brady plans to continue his education and golf career at Bluffton University. He plans to earn a degree in Criminal Justice. Brady will receive an academic scholarship of $72,000.00.
February 2023 Kiwanis Student of the Month

Corbin Stillwell has be selected February's Kiwanis Student of the Month by Southern Local High School.
Corbin is the son of Summer Stillwell and step-father, Brad Tingler of Wellsville.
Corbin is currently ranked 16th in his class with a 4.05 grade point average.
Corbin has demonstrated exemplary academic achievement throughout his high school career. He has on the honor roll his entire high career. He has also participated in the College Credit Plus program through Eastern Gateway Community College.
Corbin has participated in every school play during his high school career. He has also been involved in the high school choir his entire high school career. He has been selected for the Honors Choir 2 years in a row. He received a 1, the highest rating possible, by singing Amazing Grace at Solo and Ensemble this year.
After high school, Corbin plans to continue his education at the Honors College at Youngstown State University to earn his degree in the medical field.
January 2023 Kiwanis Student of the Month

Wyatt Morris has been selected January's Kiwanis Student of the Month by Southern Local High School.
Wyatt is the son of Mark and Sam Morris of Salineville.
Wyatt is in the Precision Machining & Manufacturing program at Columbiana County Career and Technical Center. Instructor, Matt Peters said, " Wyatt has become a leader among his peers, and ... has grown to take the initiative to redirect other students when their behavior does not meet expectations."
During Wyatt's high school career, he has excelled in athletics. This year alone, he has earned 1st Team All-Ohio Division VII, 1st Team All-Quad County Football Association, 1st Team All-Northeast Inland District Division VII, All-Northeast Inland District Division VII Defensive Player of the Year, 1st Team All-Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference, 1st Team All-Ohio Valley Athletic Conference, 1st Team All-Columbiana County All-Stars, 1st Team All Area Morning Journal, Morning Journal Defensive Player of the Year, WTOV Nine Big 22 Player of the Year Nominee, All-YSN Football Team, YSN Football Big Dog of the Year.
After high school, Wyatt plans to continue his education and work in the Precision Machining & Manufacturing Industry.
December 2022 Kiwanis Student of the Month

Cooper Edmiston has been selected December's Kiwanis Student of the Month by Southern Local High School.
Cooper is the son of Rodney Edmiston and Kelly Baker of Salineville.
Cooper is currently ranked 10th in his class with a 4.23 Grade Point Average.
Cooper has demonstrated exemplary academic achievement throughout his high school career. He has been on the All-A Honor Roll his entire high school career. He has participated in the College Credit Plus program through Eastern Gateway Community College.
His school activities include Spanish Club, Student Council, and National Honor Society. Cooper's extra-curricular activities include 3-years basketball, 2-years baseball, and 3-year letterman football. Cooper has received the Tomahawk Award in 2021 and the Puckett Award in 2022.
Cooper was a member of the 2022-2023 Football team who made it to the Region 20 Division 7 Regional Semi Finals.
Cooper was a member of the 2021 Fall Homecoming Court.
After high school, Cooper plans to attend college to study exercise science to pursue a career in Physical Therapy.
November 2022 Kiwanis Student of the Month

Andrea Rodgers has been selected November's Kiwanis Student of the Month by Southern Local High School.
Andrea is the daughter of John and Shannon Rodgers of Hammondsville.
Andrea is currently ranked 12th in her class with a 4.217 grade point average.
Andrea has demonstrated exemplary academic achievement throughout her high school career. She has been on the All-A Honor Roll her entire high school career. She has participated in the College Credit Plus program and received 18 credit hours through Eastern Gateway Community College.
Her school activities include: 3-year member of the Spanish Club, current Vice-President and a 4-year member of Student Council. President and member of the Southern Local chapter of the National Honor Society. She was the November 2021 High School Student of the Month, 2021 Prom Princess, and a member of the 2021 Fall Homecoming Court.
Andrea is a 3-year letterman in Cross Country and Track and Field.
After high school, Andrea plans to attend Kent State University to pursue a career in business management.
October 2022 Kiwanis Student of the Month
Southern Local / Salineville Kiwanis
Nick Sabbato has been selected as October's Kiwanis Student of the Month by Southern Local High School.
Nick is the son of Greg Sabbato of Wellsville and Michelle Sabbato of Georgia.
Nick is currently ranked 1st in his class with a 4.45 grade point average.
Nick has demonstrated academic achievement throughout his high school career. He has maintained all A's throughout his high school career, as well as receiving 45 College Credit Plus hours through Eastern Gateway Community College.
After high school, Nick plans to attend Youngstown State University or Kent State University to earn his Bachelor's degree in Education to teach math or science. Nick also plans to earn his MBA in finance after settling into his role as an educator.
September 2022 Kiwanis Student of the Month
Southern Local / Salineville Kiwanis
Jessica Lafferty has been selected as September's Kiwanis Student of the Month by Southern Local High School.
Jessica is the daughter of Kendra Good of Salineville. Jessica is currently ranked 4th in class with a 4.37 Grade Point Average.
Jessica has demonstrated leadership and character throughout her academic and extra-curricular activities her high school career. She has participated in the College Credit Plus Program. Jessica is on track to begin her college career as a junior.
Jessica is a member of the Southern Local FFA chapter. She volunteers her time for FFA events. She is the FFA secretary. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club and Student Council.
Jessica is a 4-year basketball and track varsity award winner, a 2-year golf, softball and bowling varsity winner. She received an EOAC Honorable Mention in track as well as the warrior award and a 2nd place in the long jump. She is a part of the 9- and 18-hole teams who hold the school record for the lowest score in golf. She also holds 3 school records in bowling. She has earned the defensive award; warrior award and 6th woman spark award in basketball.
Jessica volunteers as an elementary tutor during her free periods. She was selected by her teachers as a High School Student of the Month last year.
Her community activities include volunteering work for the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office. She also volunteers to chaperon the K9 units when they visit Southern Local.
After school, Jessica plans to attend Kent State University and earn a degree in Criminology and Justice Studies.
