The Southern Local School District encompasses 106 square miles in the southwestern corner of Columbiana County. The district consists of one building that holds grades Pre-K through 6 in the elementary wing and the junior/senior high wing of grades 7 through 12. They each are served by a building principal, assistant principal and counselor. District enrollment is approximately 870 students serviced by 77 teachers plus additional building staff.

The district combines a rural atmosphere with the advantages of nearby metropolitan areas. Southern Local consists of the rural communities of Summitville, Salineville, and Highlandtown. We are located approximately 30 miles east of Canton, 35 miles south of Youngstown, and 25 miles north of Steubenville, along with Pittsburg, PA being less than an hour drive.

The vision of the district places an emphasis on an education that actively engages students in collaboration with strategic planning that involves the entire learning community.

CURRICULUM:
Students may choose between advanced academic courses as well as career readiness classes, including vocational education at the Columbiana County Career Center. Courses include Advanced Placement (AP) and College Credit Plus (CCP).
